Low Vision Clinic

In 1986, the Jackson Central Lions Club established a Low Vision clinic to provide consultations to children whose vision cannot be corrected by conventional prescription glasses or contact lenses.  Services are offered to any child (from birth through secondary school age) who is a legal resident of Mississippi and is enrolled in an educational program.  Assessment staff members in the LVC include a Doctor of Optometry, specialist in orientation and mobility, a classroom teacher and a school counselor, as needed.

An accurate assessment of the child’s vision in functional terms, a low vision aid loaner program, training and follow-up in the use of prescribed low vision aids, and written reports that include specific suggestions for teachers and/or parents are among the services provided by LVC staff members.
