From the earliest detection of a vision problem, the Comprehensive Home-based Intervention Program (CHIP) serves eligible visually-impaired children from birth to age five in their own home. CHIP prepares young children with visual impairments or blindness to enter the most appropriate learning environment by the time they are school age.
During regular home visits, certified teachers of the visually impaired work with children using developmental instructional activities especially designed for visually-impaired youngsters. Consultation is provided with parents and other family members to work with the child daily to reinforce the learning activities demonstrated by the teacher of the visually impaired.
